0000.00 or 4020 (read: four O two O) is an attempt to draw up the utopia of a digital world, thereby poetically and playfully challenging the technical and artistic limits of a HTML-programmed reality. Theory, construction and design of this digital world-prototype was conceived and put to use by a group called "Splitterwerk". This group, located in Graz, Austria, consists of six members (Mark Blaschitz, Johann Grabner, Bernhard Kargl, Gernot Ritter, Josef Roschitz and Markus Zechner) is a construction and research workshop and has dealt with architecture and urban development since 1986. The basis for 0000.00 is a large WWW-page, which in form of a "display" offers space to colonists of the world-prototype. General information such as technical system requirements, maps of the structure of the colony and a feedback display make up the infrastructure of the prototype. e.a.k. and splitterwerk are the first active settlers in 0000.00 data space and via "displays" invite you to visit their niche in cosmos. CRAM, JOEL, NOW, KAB, PUNKT and SCHELLANDER, 4020 colonists, are current net building sites under construction. The digital gallery of e.a.k., specially designed for the Net, presents e.a.k. Hemmrich´s works: digital images created for Internet since fall 1995. Three different categories of works are displayed:
Among others, Splitterwerk presents itself with a interactive "gallery", which interconnects contents of the Digital Utopia with a theory of questions and attempts to use interrogation as a means of progressive dialectics. The "collection" in the form of Cyber-Posters shows a selection of Splitterwerk´s projects. We are introduced to:
All visitors of 4020 are called upon to relate their ideas and commentsto the utopia of a digital world. Specially established links to discussion settings and e-mail addresses can be used for this purpose. Splitterwerk welcomes any visitors of 0000.00 who wish to be present at 4020 and will assist you with your personal display. |
